President's Message
To all you Lowcountry outdoorsmen..The Lowcountry chapter of Safari Club International is the place to be. If you like hunting, the outdoors and good friends, this is the place to be. This year we are looking to re-invigorate our chapter and reach out to perspective new members who want to see what we are all about.Firstly we are not all Africa bound hunters that only hunt overseas. Instead you will find a friendly bunch of guys who enjoy the outdoors and love to hunt, whether it is fast flying doves, white tail deer or a unique Ibex in some far off land. We also have many members that participate regularly in skeet and sporting clay shoots in the local area…. a few fishermen too. This year we are planning to hold more regular meetings and we have elicited the help of Randy Marvin, owner of Gilligan’s restaurant to allow us to use some of his restaurant for meetings. We are also working to try and build a more complete e-mail list, so it is easier to get a hold of members and keep them up on upcoming events. We are determined to attract and get more people involved that are younger and hunt locally.Lowcountry SCI will continue its support of the AWLS (American Wilderness Leadership School) that trains local teachers how to relate and teach the outdoors and conservation values to our next generation. This is an on-going national program which is growing exponentially, as our school children as get more removed from the opportunities to see nature and venture beyond the classroom into the outdoor world. Now for the 5th year running we are once again holding our Wounded Warrior and Wheelchair hunt in the Ace Basin area to take care of our service men and local youth with medical handicaps. We have gown our program now to be one of the largest in the U.S. sponsoring 40 individual hunter, with nationally recognized dignitaries from the entire nation and military.Come on in, give us a call. I think you will like what you see and have fun in the process. Patrick Autore
