The Afton Guest House in Johannesburg. .

We spent the night at the Afton Guest House before flying on to Windhoek the next day.

View from Nolte's Lodge. Our bungalow is up the path past the pool.

View from our bungalow porch back towards the lodge.

Our very comfortable bungalow overlooking the river.

Breakfast at sunrise on the lodge patio.

All meals were served outside on the patio where we could enjoy the great weather and magnificent views.

Dirk's Kalahari camp is as remote as it is spectacular!

Safari Holly applying her war-paint before another day afield in the Kalahari!

Client tents in the Kalahari camp.

We grilled game over hardwood coals in the firepit every night.

Our Kalahari hostess, Ruth Koegelenberg, set a beautiful table each night and served wonderful gourmet meals by candlelight.

One of Ruth's elegant desserts. The appetizer was escargot; "livin' large in the Kalahari!"

What a priviledge it was to spend several days in this remote desert paradise!

Our tent and bathroom with hot water, flush toilet, walk-in shower and sink. All the comforts of home plus geckos and millepedes!

Rina de Bod and Holly enjoy a glass of wine by the firepit at Dirk's Central Plain lodge while dinner simmers.

Custom lighting lit the patio and walkways to the lodge and client tents.

Close-up of Kudu light.

This was my view as we enjoyed cigars and brandy after dinner with the Milky Way and the Southern Cross overhead!

Warthog light.

Our "tent" at Dirk's lodge. Dirk and Rina have created a beautiful camp in a spectacular setting.

Interior view of our tent; the "Honeymoon Suite."

Holly enjoyed a soak in the claw-foot tub every night after a long day in the field.

Interior view of Dirk's main lodge.

Some of the trophies on display in the lodge.

More trophies.

Lilac-breasted roller; one of Africa's most beautiful birds. Dirk found this one dead on the highway and had it mounted.

Huge Gemsbok horns are replicas of world-record cow. Nice Kudu horns are the real thing.

Kudu horns picked up on the property. Dirk has lots of big Kudu on his property!
