CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations, your chapter is among the 2004 Publication Awards Winners. Your chapter has won Second Place in Category Eight - Web Site Award. The entire committee judged this year's entries, and they were awesome!

We hope representatives of your chapter will be present Wednesday evening, January 26, 2005 at the Reno Hilton Hotel to accept this high honor as part of the SCI Hunter’s Convention activities.

Thank you for your winning entry. It is an honor for Safari Club International to have such high quality chapter publications. I look forward to seeing members of your chapter at the Convention in January.

SCI Salutes Outstanding Chapter Publications

TUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 1, 2005 Safari Club International today announced that 15 of some 200 SCI Chapters competing in an annual competition for excellence will be recognized for producing outstanding publications.

Chapter representatives will be accepting SCI 2005 Chapter Newsletter and Magazine awards opening night at SCI’s 33rd Annual Hunters’ Convention in Reno, Nevada this January 26-29.

"I just can’t say enough about the great work all our volunteer members do every year," observed SCI President John Monson. "The exceptional SCI Chapter periodicals being recognized help galvanize sportsmen in SCI’s fight to protect the freedom to hunt and promote wildlife conservation worldwide."

Thanks to over 1,100 exhibitors helping hunters realize their hunting dreams in North America and around the globe, as well as to extraordinary auction items for the outdoor sports enthusiast, the event should raise millions of dollars to advance SCI’s unparalleled advocacy efforts to protect hunters’ rights and wildlife conservation efforts. To preview the Convention, including over 1,100 sought-after auctions items that will be sold during the event, visit www.scifirstforhunters.org/convention/.

The winners of the SCI Awards for "Best Chapter Newsletter" with fewer than 12 pages are SCI’s Central Washington, Arizona and Italian Chapters. This is the second year in a row that SCI Central Washington has won in this category.

The three SCI Chapters that have been picked to receive the award for Best Chapter Newsletter with more than 12 pages are SCI Kentuckiana, SCI Alaska Kenai Peninsula and SCI Minnesota. SCI Alaska Kenai won last year as well in the newsletter with less than 12 pages category.

Magazine awards fall into multiple issue and annual categories. SCI’s Multiple Issue Publication awards winners are SCI Alamo San Antonio, SCI Italian and, also for the second year running, SCI Argentina. For Annual Publication awards, SCI Los Angeles and SCI Alabama are being honored, again for the second time in two years.

Two of the Fundraiser Publications being recognized, SCI Desert Las Vegas and SCI Louisiana are also two-time winners. They are being joined in this prestigious category by SCI’s North Florida Chapter.

The coveted "Sickle Horn" Award, which is given to the outstanding Chapter publication in its first year of printing, is slated to go to SCI Ontario.

Two Chapters took top honors in the Web site category. SCI Alamo San Antonio and SCI Low Country will receive first and second place honored as SCI’s "Best Web Sites."

The publications were judged on quality content, layout, printing, and stock. Publications singled out for recognition consistently presented a wide range of articles on SCI wildlife conservation, outdoor education, advocacy, and humanitarian efforts, particularly on local activities. Added touches, such as recipes and illustrations, and the presence of membership applications also helped with the newsletter’s score.

Winning fundraiser pubs also presented auction items and events organized to raise money for SCI’s many advocacy, conservation, and humanitarian efforts in a manner that was easy to follow, thorough in description, and visually appealing.

The Web Site Award is based on the ease of navigation, the content and services provided in relation to the mission of SCI, the frequency of maintenance and updating, and visual appeal of the Chapter Web site. Other touches, such as photo galleries, recipes, hunting stories, and the like added to the final score.

SCI is fortunate to have so many chapters that produce outstanding publications, year in and year out.
