NFL great Csonka to host children's charity event

A fundraiser is scheduled for Nov. 13 in Charleston to form a Lowcountry chapter of the Outdoor Dream Foundation. The Outdoor Dream Foundation, a South Carolina-based charity, began in 2004 with the purpose of granting hunting, fishing and other outdoor adventures to children suffering from terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

The Spiritline dinner cruise vessel will leave from Patriots Point at 6:30 p.m. and return at 10 p.m. for an evening with two-time Super Bowl champion Larry Csonka. Csonka will be onboard sharing some of his adventures. Csonka has become a friend of the Outdoor Dream Foundation and donates his time, which includes taking some Outdoor Dream children on expeditions so the rest of the world can meet them via his nationally syndicated television show “North To Alaska.”

DNR works with the Outdoor Dream Foundation in conjunction with the Take One Make One program. Take One Make One increases public involvement with a mentorship program that provides suitable locations for students to learn about conservation and experience the outdoors through hunting and fishing. Take One Make One also sponsors several mobility impaired hunts around the state throughout the year.

DNR's Take One Make One program encourages parental participation. “I have seen both parents’ and students’ faces light up as they learn about and enjoy the natural resources that our state has to offer,” said Kearse. “I am just happy to be a part of the learning process.”
