Chapter Members Jim McLain and Mark and Holly Peterson enjoyed a great 15 day bird hunt in South Africa during June of 2002.

They hunted three different areas of South Africa shooting ducks, geese, doves, pigeons, guinea fowl, francolin and some plains game animals.

Fabulous shooting, wonderful accommodations, great PH's, good dogs and great food were highlights of the trip.

Go to www.highadventurecompany.com for more information about this hunt.

Shozhaloza lodge in the Orange Free State, where we hunted ducks and geese.

Relaxing with drinks before dinner at Shozhaloza.

Geese at Shozhaloza.

A good morning of duck hunting at Shozhaloza.

Holly and friends. "Buddy," the lab, retreived waterfowl and "Bebo," the pointer, hunted francolin.

Holly shot this nice Blesbok while we were at Shozhaloza. It was her first African animal.

Our second shooting destination. The bar in Joe Regal's Bed and Breakfast near Welkom where we shot doves and pigeons in the sunflower fields.

Joe is also a taxidermist and the bar is decorated with his work.

Beautiful pair of Vulturine Guinea Fowl.

Nice Tanzania cape buffalo.

Jaguar mount; the cat died of natural causes in a South African zoo.

Great action mount of leopard leaping after flushing Guinea fowl.

African wild dog.

Group photo of the 5 shooters and about 1/2 of the 2 day bag of doves and pigeons bordered by empty shells. The birds were eaten by the farm staff.

Holly watches as they spread out the birds. The farm workers who picked up the birds made off with about 1/2 of them before they could be displayed.

Dinner at Joe's. The food was excellent and the shooting was great. We shot 3-4 cases of shells apiece per day.

Holly loving on one the "ferocious" guard dogs.

Lunch at Joe's. Holly, Jim and I were joined there by three other South Carolina hunters.

The third stop on our bird hunt was JP's lodge outside Thabazimbi in the Limpopo Province for Francolin and driven Guinea fowl shooting.

Guinea fowl, shooters and drivers after a successful drive.

Guineas and francolin.

Another great Guinea fowl drive. JP said this may have been a record for 5 guns.

Another day's bag of Guineas.

The school kids from the village line up to receive their pay for the afternoon hunt.

The kids would sing songs for us at the end of each day. In addition to cash, they took the birds home each day.

Holly shot this nice Impala on JP's property one morning when we were out hunting for baboons.

Loading the Impala.

Holly shot this huge African Porcupine on a night hunt for African Wild Cat, Genet and Civet. She had a full mount done, and it's spectacular.

Young Caracal I shot one morning when we were out looking for Baboons. They are seldom seen during daylight hours.

Elephant statue in the Palace Hotel in Sun City.

Sable fountain at the Palace Hotel. This trip was our Honeymoon, so we spent several days at the Palace after the hunt.

View from the balcony of our room at the Palace.

One of several magnificent pools at the Palace Hotel. Sun City is the Las Vegas of South Africa and definitely worth a visit.
