Vijay Viswanathan is a Member of the Low Country Chapter and the Coordinator of our Chapter's Disabled Hunter Program.Vijay participated in a SC Department of Natural Resources "Take One Make One" Youth Hunt on October 29th and 30th, 2004. Here is his report:
"I had the opportunity attend a SCDNR sponsored event this past weekend, the program was called “Take One Make One” a group of hunters volunteering their time to take kids out hunting. This particular hunt was a first experience for a few of the kids (who had each completed successfully the SCDNR Hunter Ed. Course) so it was a great opportunity to practice proper hunting safety and techniques. I think a total of six or seven deer were bagged altogether (one very nice eight point), making for a pretty successful hunt. The hunt was on Bulls Bay Farm, located outside Marion, SC. The property consisted of numerous cotton fields, some hardwood forest, and plenty of dense, young pine plantation with lots and lots of unused logging roads.Plenty of deer were to be seen by all despite the full moon and showering acorns. I think I myself saw four does and one nice buck, and others reported seeing as many as a herd of 12!This weekend (Nov. 5-6, 2004) I’ll be on a hunt with Mark Peterson in Laurens County for the DNR sponsored event for Hunters with Disabilities, I think around 60 hunters have already signed up for that. Updates and photos from that hunt should be online sometime next week.If you’d like any more information about either of these hunts or SCDNR’s Take One Make One program, you can visit www.dnr.state.sc.us for more information."Here are some photos taken by Vijay at the Marion, SC hunt.
